Funding objective
Support for Lower Austrian municipalities in investments in energy efficiency, environmental and climate protection, particularly through co-financing of federal funding projects as well as promotion of energy- and climate-relevant pilot and demonstration projects.

- Fulfillment of the respective conditions of federal funding within the country
- Affected buildings or facilities must be owned by the municipality
- No other financial participation from the State of Lower Austria

Description
The Climate Protection in Municipalities program supports Lower Austrian municipalities, municipal associations, and municipal cooperations in investments in energy efficiency, environmental, and climate protection. Funding is provided both for state co-financing of federally funded measures and for innovative pilot and demonstration projects with exemplary character. With a duration from 01.01.2024 to 31.12.2026, total funding rates between 12% and 30% of eligible net costs are available – up to a maximum of 300,000 euros per project. The funding is provided in the form of a non-repayable grant and significantly contributes to achieving the energy and climate goals of the state of Lower Austria.
Eligible projects include thermal building renovations, energy-saving measures such as LED systems or street lighting, heating optimizations, conversions to district heating, heat pumps and wood heating systems, as well as thermal solar systems. Energy- and climate-relevant pilot and demonstration projects are also considered, provided they convince through conceptual quality, sustainability, and uniqueness. For a successful application, a written application to the Department of Environment and Energy Economy including a copy of the federal application, cost calculation, financing and schedule plan, as well as proof of ownership plus fulfillment of federal funding conditions are required. Selection is based on defined evaluation criteria and guarantees transparent awarding.
