Municipal Funding Program of the Municipality of Nonnweiler – Watermark Action (Infiltration & Unsealing)

The municipal funding program "Aktion Wasserzeichen" of the municipality of Nonnweiler supports the decentralized management of rainwater on private properties and thereby contributes to environmental and climate protection. Measures to unseal existing surfaces as well as technical and structural infiltration measures such as swale or pond infiltration are funded. Rainwater retention in the form of retention cisterns or infiltration trenches is also part of the funding offer. The goal is to store or infiltrate rainwater where it falls, thus relieving the sewer system and strengthening the natural water cycle. The grant amount is a flat rate of €20 per square meter of disconnected surface, up to a maximum of the actual costs incurred. In this way, the municipality of Nonnweiler promotes sustainable solutions for heavy rain preparedness and water management.

Eligible to apply are all owners and leasehold rights holders with properties within the municipal boundaries. A prerequisite for approval is that the measures have not yet been started before the application is submitted and that all building, water, and monument protection regulations are observed. A formal application form as well as an uncertified overview plan (scale 1:500), a dimensioned site plan, if applicable approval documents, and a detailed cost breakdown must be attached to the application. Applications can be submitted continuously – no deadline needs to be observed. After a positive decision, the grant will be paid out to the specified account. Through this program, property owners receive a simple and unbureaucratic opportunity to design their areas in a climate-resilient and environmentally friendly manner.
