Short-term care for people with disabilities

In Carinthia, a permanent funding initiative is available in the fields of social affairs, health, as well as labor & social services, which enables short-term care for people with disabilities and their caregiving relatives. In certified disability facilities with a bed pool, high-quality care and support are ensured in accordance with the Carinthian Home Act. The subsidy model covers 100% of accommodation costs as well as care and support services, with only a proportional cost contribution being borne from the care allowance. Over a period of up to 28 days within one year, close relatives can receive urgently needed relief from home care. Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations, companies, and public institutions with a valid service contract with the State of Carinthia.

The target group includes persons requiring assistance according to § 2 K-ChG as well as their relatives who have taken on more than half of the care effort for at least six months and meet the personal requirements according to § 5 K-ChG (Austrian citizens, asylum beneficiaries, and certain status groups). The application must be submitted before the first use and includes, among other documents, the completed funding application, proof of the initial consultation and the date of the planned care, a specialist medical report (no older than two years), the care allowance decision, and the registration certificate. Administration and approval are handled by Department 4 of the Carinthian State Government – Family Support, Child Protection, Child and Youth Welfare, Equal Opportunities.
