Description
The Matching Grants of the Commission for the Coordination of Fusion Research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences offer Vienna-based private individuals and educational institutions an attractive funding instrument for the national co-financing of the EUROfusion program. With an annual maximum funding amount of up to €25,000, priority is given to PhD students and early-career researchers who are officially involved in the EUROfusion work program and active at Austrian research institutions in the field of fusion research. The funding covers personnel costs, consumables, and travel expenses, while infrastructure costs are excluded. The project duration is a maximum of 12 months per application, with the possibility of follow-up applications, and submissions are accepted year-round from January 1, 2025, without a deadline. Evaluation is based on the quality, originality, and scientific excellence of the proposed project.
The aim of this funding is to sustainably secure high-quality training in fusion research and to enable a seamless transition to subsequent EUROfusion grants. As national co-financing, the grant complements European funds and serves particularly as bridge funding following the completion of the PhD. Application documents include a letter from the project leader, a concise project description, and a CV with a publication list. The program ensures that young researchers can implement their projects promptly and significantly contributes to strengthening Austria’s contribution in the international fusion leadership field.
