Masterpieces – Restoring, Preserving, Inspiring Together!

The initiative “Masterpieces – Restoring, Preserving, Inspiring Together!” of the Förderstiftung Hamburger Kunsthalle is aimed at private individuals, companies, and foundations in Hamburg and supports a specialized restoration funding pool. This fund assists the ongoing conservation and restoration of the collection holdings of the Hamburger Kunsthalle as well as art technological research projects. With a focus on the care and documentation of valuable paintings, sculptures, and graphics, the funds are allocated to material acquisitions, technical analyses, and modern monitoring measures. Thanks to regular donations, the permanent preservation of cultural heritage can be secured and the work of restorers and research teams sustainably financed.

The program offers a continuous grant opportunity without application deadlines and invites contributions to build up the restoration funding pool through one-time or recurring donations. Supported activities include, among others, art technological investigations for material analysis, the establishment of suitable storage and exhibition techniques, as well as the acquisition of conservation tools. Through close collaboration between restorers and chemists, physicists, and other experts, sustainable concepts for preservation are developed. In the long term, this funding contributes to expanding the collection through publicly accessible exhibitions and educational programs and to gaining new research insights into historical materials and techniques. In this way, the cultural heritage of the Hamburger Kunsthalle is preserved and made accessible for future generations.
