Description
The MOE Fellowship of the German Federal Environmental Foundation offers master's graduates and diploma holders from Central and Eastern Europe the opportunity for a six- to twelve-month specialization in environmentally relevant topics. Eligible applicants are university graduates from all disciplines with a degree obtained no more than five years ago; doctoral candidates may also participate provided their doctoral project begins after the funding period. Selection is based on above-average academic performance, the practical and innovative relevance of the research topic, as well as its environmental connection. A detailed project proposal, proof of German language skills, diploma certificate, and CV are part of the application package. Applications are accepted online by March 5 and September 5 each year.
Participants receive a monthly scholarship of €1,450, full insurance coverage (health, accident, and liability), as well as a multi-week intensive German course in Osnabrück. Furthermore, the foundation supports the placement of a host institution in Germany – ranging from universities and research institutions to NGOs or specialized authorities. Networking opportunities, such as thematic seminars, participation in DBU events, and exchange with alumni on the digital platform Stipnet, promote international cooperation and knowledge transfer in science, administration, and practice. The program is nationwide and aims to build sustainable partnerships between young environmental experts from the MOE countries and German stakeholders.
