Description
Nation & You strengthens the democratic awareness of young people in Hamburg through an innovative two-day workshop format. The program is run by the German National Foundation, which, together with Haus Rissen Hamburg, employs proven methods such as role-playing, discussion rounds, and World Café. Participants assume the roles of fictional political groups in 1989 and negotiate power relations following the fall of the Berlin Wall. Accompanying reflection phases promote engagement with concepts such as nation, origin, and identity, anchoring the foundations of a contemporary understanding of nationhood. In this way, key competencies for democratic action are sharpened and inclusive coexistence is fostered. Educational institutions as venues enable a direct connection to school learning objectives and provide space for joint reflection on history, culture, and social cohesion.
The funding is aimed at educational institutions and individual students in upper grade levels who are interested in participatory learning formats on democracy and identity. Inquiries and applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis – a fixed application procedure is not required. Non-material support includes advice, networking, and professional exchange, while event locations in Hamburg are arranged flexibly. The goal is to continuously support schools in implementing modern educational projects and to provide young people with practical access to political participation. Interested institutions are invited to get in touch easily and integrate the workshops into their curriculum.
