Description

Since March 2, 2023, until December 31, 2029, the National Funding in the Field of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Ministry of the Interior has been continuously providing grants in Vienna to strengthen the asylum, migration, and return sector. Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations, companies, public institutions, and other legal entities. Three focal points are emphasized: structural measures in crisis regions, protection against violence in the context of asylum, migration, and return, as well as the implementation of the Austrian migration strategy to ensure overall state stability and social peace. The thematic range extends from counseling and development cooperation to labor & social affairs and rural development.

Project costs are subsidized at 75%–90%, with personnel expenses, material and travel costs generally recognized, while value-added tax, performance-based bonuses, and representation costs are excluded. Allocation is carried out on an ongoing basis: funding applications can be submitted at any time, accompanied by the application form, project description, financing and cost plan, as well as proof of own contributions. Selection is based on the fulfillment of formal criteria, the substantive quality and relevance of the project, its sustainability, as well as economic efficiency and effectiveness. Through gender-neutral addressing and inclusive target group promotion, refugees, persons entitled to subsidiary protection, asylum seekers, and particularly vulnerable groups such as women, children, and victims of human trafficking are especially supported. The open submission and verified financing create optimal conditions to effectively implement and further develop asylum, migration, and return projects in Austria and affected countries of origin and transit.
