Description
The funding program “Natural Climate Protection in Municipalities (Grant No. 444)” supports voluntary climate protection measures nationwide in public municipalities and municipal associations. The goal is the nature-oriented design of green spaces, the planting of urban trees, the creation of climate-effective natural oases, as well as the restoration of natural soil functions through the removal of sealing. Municipal authorities, municipal enterprises, and other public law entities can submit applications directly to the KfW Banking Group at any time and receive a grant covering 80% to 90% of eligible costs depending on their financial capacity. The project duration is up to 24 months, with the possibility of a one-time extension of an additional 24 months. There is no legal entitlement; approval is subject to the availability of funds.
Eligible costs include material and personnel expenses, third-party services, planning services, public relations, and the certification of maintenance plans. Investments in de-sealing measures are also considered eligible expenditures. Demolition of above-ground structures, remediation of contaminated sites, feasibility studies, and the procurement of green space information software are not eligible for funding. Municipalities may apply for the grant intermunicipally or pass it on to third parties (e.g., municipal utilities, churches, non-profit associations/foundations). Required documents for the application include, among others, the completed and signed application form, evidence in accordance with the Money Laundering Act, a power of attorney, data protection notices, geodata, and proof of use. There is no fixed deadline.
