Description

Nationwide, large-scale initiatives for the restoration and preservation of natural habitats are supported with financial assistance. Public institutions, non-profit organizations, interest groups, and educational institutions can continuously submit project proposals to the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation. The goal is to secure and develop ecologically valuable areas and species in Germany. The focus is on strengthening biodiversity: Through conservation-oriented concepts and field measures such as watercourse renaturation or woodland management, sustainably functioning biotopes are restored. Accompanying monitoring and public relations aim to document successes and increase acceptance among the population.

For application, participants must provide proof of professional and organizational suitability, a detailed conservation concept, as well as a cost and financing plan. Eligible for funding are planning and expert services, practical implementation measures on site, evaluations, and communication activities. Retroactive expenses, pure administrative costs beyond the project, and loan repayments are not covered. Approval takes into account aspects such as ecological effectiveness, long-term sustainability, cost-benefit ratio, and cooperation with local stakeholders. Funding is provided as a grant and thus supports a holistic approach in research, innovation, and climate protection to preserve landscape diversity and secure future-proof natural spaces for coming generations.
