Description

The Participation Fund of the Bürgerschaftsstiftung Hamburg strengthens the equal participation of people with disabilities in public decision-making processes in the Hanseatic City. With the aim of dismantling barriers and implementing the “Nothing about us without us” principle of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, self-advocacy groups, family organizations, and initiatives are supported that focus on empowering their members. Financial resources support the expansion of full-time structures, the digitization of work processes, accessible public relations, as well as specialist events and training opportunities. The sustainable strengthening of organizational structures is the focus, in order to involve people with disabilities in decision-making, leadership, and project functions in the long term.

Eligible to apply are non-profit associations, federations, and initiatives based or primarily active in Hamburg. Projects can be funded with up to €6,000; in justified individual cases, funding amounts up to €20,000 are possible. Eligible costs include, among others, personnel costs, fees, material expenses (consumables, travel costs), catering, rent, public relations, and administrative costs. Leisure activities without an empowerment effect, commercial ventures, construction measures, or already completed projects are not considered. Initial applications and projects that address various forms of disability are given priority. The next deadlines are May 20, 2026 and September 15, 2026; decisions are made approximately eight weeks after the deadline. For the application, an exemption certificate, statutes, and a budget plan are required. Advisory consultations by phone, online, or on-site support the preparation of a complete application.
