Awards in the Fields of Visual Arts, Photography/Film, Music, Literature

Since December 17, 2020, the Cultural Office of the City of Graz has continuously awarded outstanding achievements in the fields of Visual Arts, Photography/Film, Music, and Literature with funding prizes. The aim of these awards is not to distribute funds indiscriminately, but rather to strengthen the creative diversity of the Graz and Styrian art scene through targeted recognition of achievement. The awards are granted based on recommendations from independent juries, which nominate potential recipients on the basis of artistic quality and regional relevance. Eligible applicants are private individuals with verifiable ties to the Graz or Styrian scene, whose previous work demonstrates independence or indicates promising future developments.

Interested artists benefit from an open submission process without fixed deadlines and submit documents for artistic documentation and description of achievements. In addition to evidence of completed projects, the jury especially considers the perspective on future noteworthy contributions to the regional art landscape. Both individual prizes and specific funding awards, such as the Camera Austria Prize for Contemporary Photography or the Franz Nabl Literature Prize, are granted with the distinction.
