Description
The “Production-Independent Funding for Independent Dance Artists” of the City of Munich strengthens the artistic continuity of professionally working choreographers, dancers, and dance groups in the greater Bavaria area. With an annual budget of up to €25,000, the Department of Culture supports infrastructural and development-oriented measures that are not tied to individual productions. Funding is provided for rental and ancillary costs for rehearsal and workspaces (max. €200 per month), technical acquisitions, network building, public relations, as well as travel expenses for research and networking. The goal is to consolidate existing rehearsal structures, establish new workspaces, and increase regional and supra-regional visibility. Previous work must be demonstrated through artistic distinctiveness and positive reception by audiences and critics, with the main focus of work in Munich. A jury recommends consistent grants over three years and evaluates applications based on criteria such as artistic quality, sustainability, and relevance to Munich.
Applications can be submitted by individuals or non-profit organizations; the next call for proposals will start in spring 2027, with project commencement from January 1, 2025. Required for application submission are: a project description for the three-year funding period (max. 5 DIN A4 pages), a rough budget calculation for three years, and a detailed cost plan for the first funding year. Membership fees, living expenses, or fees without specific project reference are not eligible for funding. The jury decision is made based on the recommendation of the expert committee within the Cultural Affairs Committee. This funding instrument is aimed at independent dance artists who wish to secure their infrastructure, sustainably develop their artistic practice, and strengthen the Munich dance scene.
