Description

The project funding of the Prussian Sea Trade Foundation is aimed at non-profit organizations, educational institutions, interest groups, and associations based in Berlin that are exempt from taxation by the tax office for art, culture, or science and research, and are authorized to issue donation receipts in accordance with § 50 para. 1 EStDV. The focus is on cultural and scientific initiatives: from literary events and exhibitions to historical research projects as well as symposia, conferences, and innovative research work related to Berlin. Individual projects with a maximum duration of 36 months are supported. Investment measures on buildings as well as permanent staff positions, annual programs, qualification theses, event series, periodicals, and printing subsidies are excluded. A prerequisite is that the project has neither started nor been completed and that a valid exemption notice for the respective funding area is available. Applications cannot currently be submitted.

Funding is provided as partial financing in the form of grants and is decided by the Foundation’s board after formal review of the submitted documents – including a brief exposé, a current exemption notice, a cover letter with a legally valid signature, and a detailed cost and financing plan. The allocation of funds requires the submission of a final report and an accounting; unused funds must be returned. Through its financial support, the Foundation contributes to strengthening cultural life and promoting scientific knowledge in and for Berlin by supporting innovative and creative projects on a one-time, project-related basis.
