Description
The PRO RETINA Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness supports innovative research projects nationwide in the field of retinal degenerations with start-up, bridging, and completion funding. Funding is provided to educational institutions, public as well as non-profit organizations, private individuals, and clinics that advance basic and clinical research aimed at developing new therapies, visual prostheses, gene therapies, and rehabilitation methods. With a funding rate of 100%, financial support covers material costs, personnel costs, and doctoral scholarships; small projects up to €6,000 may also cover conference travel, publication costs, and participant fees. Applications for projects with a funding volume exceeding €6,000 must be submitted annually by February 15, while small project applications can be submitted at any time.
Proposals are evaluated based on their expected benefit for affected individuals, the degree of innovation, and therapeutic relevance; parallel research is only permitted in justified exceptional cases. The application must be submitted electronically as a PDF and may not exceed 15 DIN A4 pages (10-point font), including the bibliography. It may be written in German or English, provided a German summary is included. The application documents must include the binding structural template, proof of use, as well as annual interim reports and a final report for projects lasting longer than twelve months. In this way, the PRO RETINA Foundation makes a decisive contribution to realizing pioneering research approaches for vision improvement and blindness prevention from concept to clinical application.
