Project Funding Related to Austria's Nazi Past

The Federal Chancellery nationwide supports national and international initiatives for the critical examination of Austria’s Nazi past. The aim of this ongoing grant initiative is to sustainably support research projects, educational programs, and cultural projects in the fields of education, research & innovation, culture, as well as vocational training and further education. Private individuals, companies, and non-profit organizations may submit applications online at any time, provided there is a clear project connection to the history of National Socialism in Austria. This funding encourages an inclusive engagement that also highlights new perspectives on historical events and their current relevance.

Supported activities include, among others, exhibitions, publications, workshops, and scientific studies that deepen the understanding of the Nazi past and enable interdisciplinary cooperation. Submission is free of charge and possible independently of fixed deadlines. Upon approval, a detailed final report must be submitted by the deadline specified in the funding agreement. As the central contact point, the Department for Legal and Award Affairs of the Federal Chancellery coordinates all award processes and ensures compliance with legal requirements. By directly providing federal funds, the initiative contributes to strengthening the culture of remembrance and promotes public awareness of democratic values and human rights.
