Description
The journalism funding in Vienna enables targeted support for periodical print publications that appear between four and forty times a year and primarily address political, cultural, or ideological issues. The aim of this grant funding is to strengthen civic education through high-quality content and to accompany public debates. Ongoing applications can be submitted at any time, allowing publishers and editors to respond flexibly to editorial projects and sustainably strengthen the Austrian media landscape.
A prerequisite for funding is, among other things, publishing and production activity in Austria with at least one Austrian publisher, as well as widespread distribution in more than one federal state. The print publications may have a maximum of 50% free circulation and use no more than 20% of the editorial content for club or organizational announcements. Furthermore, the publications must have been regularly published for at least one year, comply with the obligations pursuant to §§ 25 and 43 of the Media Act, and demonstrate an economic necessity for the funding. This comprehensive set of criteria ensures that the funded media make a significant contribution to diversity of opinion and public education.
