Journalism Support

The journalism funding enables financial support throughout Austria for periodic print publications that appear between four and forty times per year and whose content primarily addresses political, cultural, or ideological issues. The goal is to secure the content diversity and the number of these print media in the long term. Designed as a grant, the funding contributes to strengthening journalistic commitment and ensuring access to multifaceted debate formats beyond purely specialized target groups.

Eligible for funding are companies that publish periodic print titles as a publisher or editor and whose content is not exclusively aimed at a professional audience. A prerequisite for approval is at least four and at most forty issues per calendar year, as well as a thematic focus on political, cultural, or ideological topics. Applications can be submitted continuously to the responsible Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media, and Sports. The unlimited submission period and the clear focus on journalistic diversity make this program particularly interesting for established and emerging media projects that place their editorial emphasis on socially relevant issues.
