Description

The Charité Foundation specifically promotes the permanent recruitment of experienced and leading scientists (career levels R3 / R4) in the life sciences and university medicine in Berlin through the Recruiting Grants. A grant of up to €750,000 is available over a maximum of three years and covers critical elements of recruitment: appropriate remuneration, attractive additional equipment, dual career measures, and travel expenses for preparation. A prerequisite is co-financing by the applying institution (board member of Charité or cooperating partner) as well as proof that the Recruiting Grant is indispensable both substantively and financially. The planning includes the creation of a permanent W2/W3 professorship or a genuine tenure-track option and takes into account the contribution to strengthening a research focus, diversity (gender, origin, internationality, age), and—particularly weighted—the acquisition of competitive third-party funding (“Money Follows Researcher”). Administrative costs and overheads are not funded.

Interested parties are established group leaders, junior professors, assistant professors, or comparable profile holders aiming for a professorship or leadership position at Charité or joint professorships. The application consists of a strategic justification, proof of qualifications, and a financial plan and can be submitted at any time. Evaluation criteria include the relevance and appropriateness of the funding, the scientific excellence of the nominees, the contribution to profile development of life sciences across Berlin, as well as the sustainability of the personnel perspective. Travel expenses can be approved in advance without conditions. Applicants use the official form and submit all required attachments (program information, application form, data protection notice, financial plan) to the Charité Foundation.
