Description

The Helmuth von Glasenapp Foundation supports indological study and research trips nationwide with financial grants and personal contributions. The aim of this ongoing funding opportunity is to facilitate travel expenses for scientific projects in India research, provided that the purpose of the trip offers a decisive added value for research and teaching. Eligible applicants are private individuals, including students, scientists, and dedicated researchers who wish to deepen their investigations or develop new research questions through their stay on site. The foundation places great emphasis on closing gaps not covered by other funding institutions and primarily supports projects whose financial implementation is not possible through alternative means.

For the application, detailed information about the planned research or study project is required, including the duration of the trip, a cost breakdown, and proof of personal contribution, which should exceed the usual shares of the DFG. It must also be explained why other funding sources are not applicable, and whether applications are concurrently submitted to other institutions. A complete application with a CV, list of publications, and study plan should ideally be submitted by mid-February of a fiscal year, as the review takes place approximately once a year. Approved funds must be drawn within three years. The decision is based on scientific added value, appropriateness, and compliance with the foundation’s principles. Timely reporting after return and publication of research results is mandatory.
