Description

Guideline for the Promotion of Natural Heritage and Environmental Awareness has been supporting public and private entities in the rural areas of Brandenburg since January 2, 2024, in halting the loss of biological diversity and securing habitats permanently. Funding is provided for nature conservation planning and studies (including green space plans, management plans, and scientific investigations according to the FFH and Birds Directives), outreach environmental education, as well as innovative technical and structural measures to preserve valuable biotopes. Grants are also awarded for the establishment and modernization of visitor information centers in large protected areas, the networking of regional environmental actors, and the creation of environmentally compatible recreational infrastructure (e.g., educational trails, observation platforms). The project duration may be up to 60 months, and applications can be submitted continuously. The funding rate varies depending on the measure between 50% and 100% of the eligible total costs. A pragmatic billing procedure is ensured through standardized personnel cost rates, residual and overhead cost options, based on digital time records and summarized invoice lists.

Eligible applicants include legal entities under public law, non-profit organizations, companies, and nature-interested private individuals with projects in the defined funding area. The selection of approvable applications is conducted transparently according to point criteria (PAK) and fixed deadlines. The territorial scope includes Natura 2000 sites, other protected areas, and adjacent habitats in the rural areas of Brandenburg. For application submission, project descriptions, management or development concepts, cost estimates, and proof of professional qualification must be submitted electronically via the internet application system (IAP). A planning precondition allows projects to be started at the applicant’s own risk from the date of application, thus enabling a smooth project start.
