Description

The nationwide funding program is aimed at non-profit organizations, associations, religious institutions, and municipalities that predominantly operate buildings (at least 300 m² gross floor area, older than 20 years) for the accommodation of low-income or vulnerable individuals. The objective is a combination of thermal refurbishment and the installation of climate-friendly heating systems (district heating connection, central wood heating system, or heat pump). These investments sustainably reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions while improving living comfort for vulnerable target groups. Funding is provided in the form of a non-repayable grant; applications can be submitted online to Kommunalkredit Public Consulting GmbH from 01.03.2024 to 31.12.2050.

All expenses necessary to reduce heating energy demand, as well as climate-friendly heating systems, are eligible for funding, provided they are implemented together with refurbishment measures or retrofitted to already refurbished buildings. Requirements include, among others, registration in the list of donation-eligible institutions of the Federal Ministry of Finance, proof of predominantly social use (> 50% of the heated area), and submission of energy certificates, existing and submission plans, cost estimates, as well as a heat supply contract in case of district heating connection. A detailed project description and a self-declaration regarding building use complete the application documents. This program combines climate protection, energy efficiency, and social commitment in a sustainable investment for vulnerable people in need.
