Description
The program "Student Free Travel in Occasional Transport – Cost Reimbursements to Student Holders or Municipalities" provides nationwide subsidies to cover the actual transportation costs of students under 24 years of age. The objective is to offset the travel expenses incurred between the domestic residence and the attended public or publicly equivalent school. The funding is paid directly to municipalities or school-operating institutions that organize the transport. Since March 17, 1971, there has been no deadline for applications, allowing eligible institutions to submit requests continuously.
Prerequisites for cost reimbursement include entitlement to family allowance and proof that no other free transportation is utilized. Students attend a public or equivalently recognized cross-border school located in Austria with official authorization. Third-country nationals without EU/EEA or Swiss citizenship must provide a confirmation from the tax office regarding the receipt of family allowance. Only student transportation costs are funded. Through this measure, Section VI – Family and Youth of the Federal Chancellery supports equal opportunities in education, promotes social participation, and relieves municipalities of financial burdens related to student mobility.
