Schools for Marine Conservation

The funding program "Schools for Marine Conservation" by the Rüm Hart Foundation is aimed at educational institutions throughout Germany that wish to firmly integrate marine conservation topics into their teaching and daily school routine. Through the environmental education database KUNTforum.de, teachers can select from a variety of sustainable offerings – ranging from digital lesson units and excursions to lectures. Additionally, measures within school operations are supported that reduce waste, use environmentally friendly chemicals, save energy, or establish a marine-friendly cafeteria menu. A central goal is to raise students' awareness of the importance of the oceans in climate processes and global biodiversity. Through exchange and networking with other participating schools, a vibrant network of committed schools is created, which serves as a nationwide model.

All schools can submit a Letter of Intent at any time to be recognized as a "School for Marine Conservation" and receive a grant. The funding requirement is fulfilled by a completed declaration of intent and proof of school activity in Germany. The program supports not only subject-specific education but also promotes social skills and a sense of responsibility for environmental and climate protection. The continuous submission of applications allows for flexible project planning, while the simple application procedure ensures that all interested educational institutions can participate quickly and easily. In this way, schools make an active contribution to the protection of the oceans and jointly shape a sustainable future.
