Description

The Silvia Tennenbaum Scholarship of the Non-Profit Hertie Foundation is aimed at authors, critics, and artists with a written practice who wish to realize an innovative project on the topics of antisemitism, culture of remembrance, and democracy. Within the framework of the six-month writer-in-residence program, the scholarship holders receive a monthly grant of €2,000, supplemented by a rent subsidy of €2,500 for three months. Part of the funding period is spent in Frankfurt am Main, where participants take part in internal and public events of the foundation as well as exchange formats with local initiatives. This cultural dialogue enriches the content-related work with valuable impulses and helps to build a sustainable network.

Eligible for funding are European private individuals with very good German language skills and relevant writing experience, whose project has a clear connection to the aforementioned thematic areas. The jury evaluates the submitted concepts based on relevance, originality, and impact. Applications must include a CV, a project outline, and a list of publications. Interested parties should send their documents by June 30, 2026 via email. The decision will be made in September 2026, and the project start date can be chosen flexibly from January 1, 2027. With this funding, the foundation supports substantively grounded artistic and literary works that contribute to a reflective culture of remembrance and the strengthening of democratic values.
