Urban Renewal (AV Urban Renewal 2014)

The Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing provides a comprehensive funding program for urban renewal in Berlin, supporting urban development measures in formally designated renewal areas. With funds from the federal-state urban development funding program, future-oriented projects are promoted to revitalize neighborhoods, improve housing and quality of life, and develop sustainable infrastructure. Natural and legal persons, authorities, as well as public-private partnerships, can submit applications on an ongoing basis and benefit from a grant if an integrated urban renewal concept (ISEK) is available and the measures are implemented in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Building Code (BauGB).

Funding is provided, among other things, for neighborhood management, social cohesion measures, vibrant centers, and sustainable urban redevelopment. The grants serve to enhance unused spaces, strengthen the diversity of uses, and adapt to demographic or climatic challenges. A prerequisite is the anchoring of the project in a renewal area designated by the Senate, which is legally secured. By combining public funds and own resources, innovative concepts are to be realized that will shape the cityscape in the long term and ensure a high quality of life. The ongoing application process enables flexible planning and implementation of projects of all sizes in the capital.
