The foundation funding of the Nature and Environment Foundation Rhineland-Palatinate continuously supports projects for the preservation, maintenance, and sustainable development of nature and the environment within the federal state. Funding is provided particularly for initiatives in nature conservation, environmental education, as well as in the areas of energy efficiency and climate protection. Applicants, including non-profit associations and organizations, municipalities, and occasionally private individuals such as landowners, benefit from grants covering up to 100% of eligible costs. Small projects up to €5,000 are decided promptly, even between board meetings, while larger projects are evaluated at least once a year by the foundation’s board. The selection criteria primarily include the contribution to nature and environmental protection, aspects of sustainability, degree of innovation, and the appropriateness of the applicant’s own contribution.
Conditions for funding include demonstrable impact in Rhineland-Palatinate, an own contribution of at least 10% (associations) or 25% (municipalities), a detailed financing and schedule plan, as well as a statutory focus on nature and environmental protection. Eligible expenses comprise project-related personnel costs, material and supply costs, travel expenses, acquisition and leasing of land, and investments in special model projects. Ongoing personnel costs for permanent staff and regular construction measures without model character are not recognized.
