Description
The “Residencies Abroad” scholarship of the Goethe-Institut e. V. offers individuals from the German music scene the opportunity to deepen intercultural collaborations and co-productions through two- to four-week stays in a freely chosen host country. The aim is to promote artistic research, establish sustainable networks, and develop initial joint compositions or projects with local partners, ideally supported by the Goethe-Institut there. The funding is aimed at musicians, composers, and music professionals who have not completed a funded stay abroad in the past three years. An early start of the measure can be requested informally before binding bookings are made. Applicants must be part of the German music scene and demonstrate the intercultural added value of the project.
Travel expenses as well as subsidies for accommodation, meals, and other costs are funded; purely touring activities, study stays, commercial training seminars, or trips to German-speaking countries are not supported. Evaluation criteria include integration into the local music scene, a convincing concept for artistic research and networking, visible interim results on site, artistic-social sustainability, and environmentally friendly choice of transport. Application documents include, among others, a detailed project description, proof of integration into the host country, travel itinerary, artistic biography, financing plan, audio sample, and two cost estimates. The application deadline is April 7, 2026 for projects between June 1 and October 31, 2026, and September 7, 2026 for projects between November 1, 2026, and February 28, 2027.
