Description
The funding for stray cat neutering in Carinthia supports public institutions, especially municipalities, in the sustainable regulation of feral cat populations. From January 1, 2024, the state of Carinthia, through Department 5 – Health and Care, grants a non-repayable subsidy for each neutering performed as well as the subsequent microchip identification. Applications can be submitted continuously until the allocated budget is exhausted. The aim of the initiative is to reduce animal suffering, prevent the spread of diseases such as leukemia, FIP, or feline panleukopenia, and promote energy efficiency and climate protection in line with a comprehensive animal welfare approach.
Eligible for funding are all municipalities in Carinthia that undertake trapping campaigns and the humane care of stray cats. A prerequisite for approval is the submission of a formal funding application to the state of Carinthia as well as proof of neutering and identification costs in the form of a stray cat neutering certificate or a service receipt. Reimbursable expenses include veterinary services related to neutering and microchip implantation. Coordination is carried out in cooperation with the Austrian Veterinary Chamber, Carinthia branch, and the Carinthian Association of Municipalities to leverage synergies and ensure comprehensive implementation.
