Description

The structural funding of the City of Kempten (Allgäu) is aimed at non-municipal, non-profit cultural organizations, associations, and festivals based in Kempten that have been continuously contributing to basic cultural provision for at least three years. As an institutional funding instrument, it seeks to ensure the long-term stability of professional cultural institutions, provide planning security, and sustainably strengthen the local cultural life. Particularly targeted are established festival organizers and multi-day cultural projects that assume a significant public function through regular offerings and actively build networks and promote cooperation as “anchor institutions.” The grant is provided as a fixed amount over a period of 36 months and can cover deficits, provided that overall financing – including third-party funds – is secured.

Eligible applicants must, in addition to solid cultural commitment over the past three years, have at least one project funding from the City of Kempten and align with the minimum fee recommendations of relevant associations. Evaluation criteria include cultural participation, contemporary mediation of historical heritage, innovative formats, development of new cultural venues, transfer of traditions, engagement with city-relevant topics, and the visibility of diverse artistic perspectives. Applications are submitted annually between January 15 and April 15 via the online form; supplements such as financing plans or proof of use for follow-up applications must be attached. The decision is made by the Committee for Culture and City Theater based on administrative, economic, and professional recommendations. Through this funding, the City of Kempten makes a significant contribution to enhancing its attractiveness as a vibrant cultural city.
