Description

The prevention program “SunPass – Healthy Sun Fun for Children” by the European Skin Cancer Foundation is aimed at daycare centers throughout Germany and seeks to raise awareness among preschool children, their parents, and educational staff about effective sun protection. By implementing defined protective measures in daycare centers—such as regular application of sunscreen, wearing UV-protective clothing, and planning shaded outdoor areas—the facility can be awarded the title of Sun Protection Kindergarten. Participation is free of charge and does not require a fixed deadline: applications are accepted year-round, and the program restarts automatically each year. Professionally coordinated materials and guidelines always adhere to the latest recommendations from dermatologists, expert working groups, and the Federal Office for Radiation Protection to ensure age-appropriate implementation of prevention.

The long-term goal of SunPass is the sustainable reduction of skin cancer risk through early education and lived behavioral changes in everyday daycare life. Through practical training and interactive offerings, children learn at an early age how solar radiation works and how simple measures can protect against UV damage. Parents and educational staff are involved in workshops and informational materials to jointly create a health-promoting environment. The continuous development of the program by regional cancer societies ensures that SunPass will continue to play a significant role in public health education and make an important contribution to skin cancer prevention.
