Description
The Goethe-Institut’s funding program supports foreign publishers and translators from the Polish language area in the translation of German-language literature into Polish during the focus period 2025–2027. By providing grants for translation fees and licensing costs, it promotes reciprocal literary transfer and contributes to the development of sustainable exchange structures. Up to €5,000 per title can be granted for translation costs, with additional subsidies covering 50% of licensing fees—up to a maximum of €2,000. Since payment is made only after submission of the published edition, a high quality of translations is ensured, and the international visibility of German-language works is strengthened.
Eligible for funding are companies and individuals from EU member states who submit a valid contract between the foreign licensee and the German licensor as well as a separate contract with the translator. Essential requirements include proof that the work has not yet been printed or published at the time of the approval notice and that the translation is made from the original German-language text. Applications can be submitted continuously with the following documentation: completed application form, detailed cost calculation including print run, license agreement, translator contract, and a project justification explaining the target audience and publisher profile. Submitted projects are evaluated by a jury of literary experts from Germany and Poland. This funding provides the international book market with long-term access to current German-language titles and offers the Polish readership access to diverse literary perspectives.
