Description
The City of Graz promotes the retroactive greening of roof surfaces with the aim of sustainably improving the urban climate and enhancing ecological diversity. Owners, developers, and managers of legally approved existing buildings (completed before 1 January 2025) can apply for a grant of €35 per m² for the installation of extensive green roofs. The minimum greened area is 20 m², and the vegetation layer must be at least 15 cm thick. Per property, funding can be claimed up to a maximum amount of €10,000. The funding rate covers up to 100% of the eligible installation costs, so no own funds are required if fully paid invoices are provided as proof.
Applications can be submitted from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026. In addition to proof of legal building approval, a current site plan with dimensions, meaningful photos of the completed greening, documentation of the area and substrate depths, as well as confirmation of professionally qualified planning and execution, are prerequisites for a successful funding approval. Additionally, a consolidated invoice not older than three months must be submitted, along with proof of control over the building. Through these comprehensive funding requirements, the City of Graz ensures professional implementation and long-term functionality of greened roof surfaces.
