Description
The Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation supports the conception and implementation of scientifically internationally oriented WE-Heraeus seminars throughout Germany in all areas of modern physics. The initiative is aimed at individuals, public and educational institutions, as well as non-profit organizations planning seminars with up to three scientific directors from Germany and, if applicable, a partner country. The foundation covers 100% of eligible expenses – including accommodation, meals, travel reimbursements for speakers and leadership, poster awards, as well as organizational and implementation costs. Lecture fees, fees for external service providers, and investment costs are not funded. Selection is based on the scientific innovation content, involvement of early-career researchers, international cooperation, and the proportion of women among speakers and participants. Applications may be submitted in German or English, must be received approximately six months before the seminar begins, and comprise around ten pages.
Interested scientists from universities and research institutions summarize in a cover letter the title, location, and date, as well as an approximately 250-word summary for the website. Additionally, curricula vitae of the scientific leadership, a detailed justification with scientific background, a preliminary program schedule including timetable and list of speakers are required. Decisions are made during biennial committee meetings at fixed deadlines published on the foundation’s website. The funding creates sustainable impulses for professional dialogue and the initiation or strengthening of international cooperation – a forum that provides space for intensive discussions, targeted support of early-career researchers, and diverse networking opportunities.
