Description
The puppy sponsorship program of the German School for Guide Dogs Foundation enables dedicated private individuals, families, or couples in the Berlin area to take a Labrador puppy into their household and daily life from the 10th week of life for approximately 18 months. During this time, the sponsor families take on the basic training, socialization, and environmental acclimatization of the future guide dog. All costs for food, veterinary care, and essential equipment (leash, collar, feeding bowl) are covered 100% by the foundation. Experienced trainers provide continuous advice and support: during regular meetings, they impart expert knowledge, answer questions, and assist in developing a confident and reliable companion dog.
Interested parties must reside within the Berlin catchment area, have the consent of all household members and – if necessary – the landlord, and be able to provide sufficient time for exercise and attention. An apartment on the first floor or with an elevator is recommended to protect the young dog's joints. The sponsorship combines social commitment with a concrete contribution to animal and climate protection, as thorough upbringing promotes the later quality of life of blind and visually impaired people through reliable assistance. Applications are possible at any time; contact is made via email or telephone to discuss the process and next steps.
