Scientific Individual Projects

The program "Scientific Individual Projects" of the State of Lower Austria provides one-time support for larger research projects, endowed professorships, and infrastructures that have outstanding strategic significance within the federal state. Recipients of funding can be universities, universities of applied sciences, research institutions, non-profit organizations, companies, or private individuals with a registered office or a significant project implementation focus in Lower Austria. Applications are granted as non-repayable grants and can be submitted at any time from June 1, 2026, without a deadline. A prerequisite is a verifiable connection to Lower Austria, special relevance in terms of the R&D&I strategy and/or the higher education strategy, as well as a clearly recognizable added value for the science location Lower Austria. Evaluation is based on the contribution to the statewide research and innovation agenda, the particular interest of the federal state, and the scientific excellence of the project.

The following documents must be submitted for the application: a detailed project description, a detailed cost calculation, a financing plan including own contributions and third-party funds, as well as a precise schedule. Upon decision, a specific funding amount is committed, serving as a financial contribution to the realization of the project and complementing own funds and third-party funds. Processing and monitoring are carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the Lower Austria Cultural Funding Act 1996; applicants commit to demonstrating the use of funds and implementing the project goals within the agreed timeframe. Interested research institutions and scientists receive professional support from the Department of Science and Research of the Lower Austria State Government, thereby making a decisive contribution to the sustainable strengthening of the science and research location Lower Austria.
