Description
The Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation supports the organization of thematic workshops and conferences in Germany and elsewhere in Europe that do not fall within the established series of WE-Heraeus seminars and physics schools. Individuals from physics or related disciplines who can demonstrate substantial involvement of the German community are eligible to apply. The funding program includes both traditional events with 60 to 80 participants and the new Fast-Track format, which invites a small group (approx. 20–30 participants) to address current issues on short notice. The goal is to strengthen international networking, actively involve early-career researchers, and provide space for intensive discussions that initiate innovative research collaborations.
Eligible expenses include accommodation, catering, travel reimbursements for speakers and scientific leadership, as well as organizational costs; honoraria for lectures are excluded. In the evaluation by the Scientific Advisory Board, the scientific innovativeness, involvement of early-career researchers, and relevance to the German community are central. Applications follow the Guidelines for Seminars and Physics Schools and include an approximately 10-page proposal document, CVs of the leaders, program structure, schedule, and a scientific justification with objectives. Decisions are made during the Advisory Board meetings in spring and autumn; exact deadlines can be found on the Foundation’s website. Fast-Track workshops may be applied for at any time. This funding opportunity offers researchers a platform for intensive exchange and new partnerships beyond established conference formats.
