Future Regions in Lower Saxony – Projects

The funding program Future Regions in Lower Saxony – Projects is aimed at public institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, as well as interest groups and associations within the designated future regions of Lower Saxony. The goal is to strengthen rural and structurally weak areas through investments in infrastructure, digitalization, research & innovation, as well as agriculture and urban development. Projects are supported that create added value on-site through close cooperation and demonstrate a high level of innovation, sustainability, and a tangible contribution to regional development. Eligible projects must have a regional reference and provide proof of own funds or co-financing. The funding rate ranges between 50% and 80% of eligible expenses, which include infrastructure investments, personnel costs, material expenses, and technologies for digitalization. Ongoing administrative costs and retroactive expenses are excluded.

The maximum project duration is 36 months; the funds are provided as a non-repayable grant. For the application, a detailed project description, a complete financing plan, proof of co-financing, as well as a timeline and milestone plan must be submitted. Applications are evaluated based on the criteria of innovation content, contribution to regional development, sustainability, and cooperation. The funding body is the Lower Saxony Ministry for Federal and European Affairs and Regional Development, while the Investment and Development Bank of Lower Saxony (NBank) acts as the central funding bank providing advisory support and is responsible for processing. Interested project sponsors in the Future Regions of Lower Saxony can apply continuously and thus actively participate in the structural strengthening of rural areas.
