Description

The state of Schleswig-Holstein supports municipal projects aimed at protection against hazards from contaminated sites and the reuse of fallow land. Eligible applicants include districts, independent cities, municipalities, administrative offices, as well as legal entities under private law with a municipal majority stake. Funding is provided for historical investigations, preliminary and detailed examinations, as well as remediation investigations and planning services. Furthermore, the funding guideline covers measures for land management and land recycling, as well as decontamination and disposal of contaminated soils and construction waste. With co-financing of up to 75% of eligible expenses for investigation and management measures and up to 50% for remediation and recycling measures, the program offers a strong incentive for sustainable land management and the protection of soil and groundwater resources.

A prerequisite for approval is that the site is listed in the contaminated sites register and that the measure is either ordered by the competent authority or responsibility according to § 4 BBodSchG is documented in the application. Remediation measures additionally require a risk assessment in accordance with § 9 BBodSchG. Funded expenses must amount to at least €2,000 (investigation and management measures) or €50,000 (remediation and land recycling). The application must include, among other things, an explanation of the project, the classification result, a site plan, information on previous measures, a cost estimate, as well as evidence of third-party funding. Applications may be submitted continuously until June 30, 2026. This grant program promotes the sustainable revitalization of former industrial and commercial sites and contributes to environmental and health protection.
