About the funder
The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is a federal ministry with its primary office in Bonn and a secondary office in Berlin. It was established in 1961 as the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and has borne its current name since 1993. The BMZ shapes German governmental development policy, develops guidelines and concepts, establishes long-term cooperation strategies with partner countries, and defines rules for the implementation of German development cooperation. Approximately 1,157 employees work at the two offices as well as worldwide at German diplomatic missions and international organizations. Implementing organizations include, among others, GIZ, KfW Development Bank, DEG, and Engagement Global.

Mission & Vision
The BMZ pursues a policy of Integrated Security with the aim of ensuring Germany's resilience, strengthening societal resilience, and achieving sustainable management of our natural resources. At its core is the guiding principle: leaving no one behind – nationally and internationally – supported by the commitment to the United Nations 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Target groups
Target groups are partner countries of German development cooperation worldwide, particularly in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, as well as international organizations, civil society, municipalities, and businesses. Domestically, the BMZ addresses civil society organizations, educational institutions, and citizens committed to global justice, poverty reduction, food security, and sustainable development.
