About the funder

The Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB) is a federal ministry based in Berlin that has been responsible since 2021 for the areas of housing, urban development, construction, and spatial planning. It develops and coordinates funding programs for social housing, energy-efficient urban renewal, climate-friendly new construction, as well as urban development promotion. The ministry is also responsible for housing allowance, building law, federal spatial planning, and federal construction. Since May 7, 2025, it has been headed by Minister Verena Hubertz.

Mission & Vision

For livable places and affordable housing: The BMWSB is committed to creating more housing, building more affordably and climate-friendly, and promoting better coexistence in cities and regions. Housing and construction are the social issues of our time – the ministry shapes the framework conditions so that citizens, municipalities, and the construction industry can jointly develop livable and affordable living spaces.

Target groups

The BMWSB targets citizens (especially those eligible for housing benefits, tenants, and homeowners), municipalities and federal states as sponsors of urban development, housing companies and cooperatives, construction industry enterprises, as well as professionals from architecture, urban planning, and spatial planning.
