About the funder

The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW was founded in 1991 and, with a funding volume of around 35 million euros in recent years, is one of the most significant funding institutions in Germany and Europe. As a non-profit GmbH based in Cologne, it supports film and media culture as well as the media industry in North Rhine-Westphalia. Funding is provided for cinema and television films, series, games, web content, radio plays, and the modernization of cinemas. In addition, it is involved in location marketing and the development of the media landscape in NRW, representing the federal state both domestically and abroad. Shareholders include the state of NRW, WDR, ZDF, and RTL; the funding partner is ProSiebenSat.1.

Mission & Vision

The Film and Media Foundation NRW sees itself as the central point of contact for film and media professionals in North Rhine-Westphalia. Its mission is the sustainable strengthening of the film and media culture as well as the film and media industry in the region. It supports innovative audiovisual projects, initiates networking and marketing measures, and creates conditions that ensure the creativity, diversity, and competitiveness of the sector.

Target groups

Funding is provided to producers, authors, directors, developers, and companies from North Rhine-Westphalia who are active in the fields of cinema, television, streaming, games, web video, or radio broadcasting. The funding programs target both established production companies and emerging talents as well as individual projects aiming to realize innovative, culturally significant, and economically promising audiovisual content.
