About the funder

The Rainer Markgraf Foundation is a non-profit private foundation established in 2014 by Rainer W. Markgraf, based in Bayreuth. It promotes education, science, and research in the regions of Upper Palatinate and Upper Franconia. It supports universities, colleges, and other educational institutions as well as vocational training and further education for young people. Another focus lies on improving local infrastructural projects. Additionally, the foundation organizes discussion evenings at Villa Markgraf as part of its own series "FORUM/HEIMAT/MARKGRAF."

Mission & Vision

Strengthening regions and supporting youth. The Rainer Markgraf Foundation aims, through its commitment, to preserve and enhance the economic and social attractiveness of the Upper Palatinate and Upper Franconia regions. It is dedicated to enabling young people, regardless of their financial situation, to access vocational, continuing, and higher education, thereby securing the region’s future supply of skilled and managerial personnel in the long term.

Target groups

The foundation's funding programs are aimed at adolescents and young adults with outstanding academic achievements who live in or wish to work in Upper Palatinate or Upper Franconia; at students and doctoral candidates requiring financial support for living expenses, daily studies, or their doctorate; at professionals in industry, commerce, and crafts seeking vocational qualifications (master courses, advanced studies, etc.); as well as at non-profit recognized or public bodies and educational and research institutions from the aforementioned regions intending to implement infrastructure or research projects.
