Description
The Austrian Integration Fund provides nationwide grants at the intersection of initial and continuing education, migration, education, as well as labor & social affairs. As a supplement to state study funding, the program supports migrants and refugees in combining academic qualification with successful labor market integration. Third-country nationals with long-term residence permits as well as asylum seekers and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection who are enrolled at an Austrian university benefit from needs-based funding. Through the combination of study and integration support, a contribution is made to social participation and the strengthening of intercultural competencies.
Eligible applicants are individuals who were under 30 years of age at initial registration, can demonstrate successful academic progress, and prove social need. Essential requirements include lawful and permanent residence in Austria, valid university admission, and budgetary coverage of the funding. Relevant documents include proof of identity, registration certificate, income statements, as well as admission or recognition decision, transcript of records, and curriculum vitae. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis under the subsidiarity principle; concurrent funding from other sources excludes a grant. Since May 2, 2019, applications can be submitted continuously and without time limitation, allowing for coverage of short-term needs. Applications are submitted via the Fund’s online portal or in writing. There is no legal entitlement to funding, as allocation is subject to available budgetary resources.
