Description

In Bavaria, LEADER supports exemplary projects for the sustainable development of rural areas in the period 2023–2027. Through local action groups (LAG), a bottom-up approach is implemented, placing the strategic planning and execution of projects locally in the hands of committed stakeholders. The topics range from agriculture and regional development to civic engagement and democracy, as well as climate protection, energy efficiency, and nature conservation. The goal is to promote sustainable processes and innovations, strengthen regional economic strength, expand inter-municipal cooperation, and develop responses to challenges such as climate change, demographic change, and resource conservation. For this purpose, EU funds amounting to €89 million are available and can be granted as subsidies with funding rates between 30% and 90% of project costs.

The funding is aimed at a diverse range of applicants – private and public institutions, companies, cooperatives, foundations, educational providers, non-profit organizations, interest groups and associations, as well as start-ups – who implement projects with long-term regional added value. Funding prerequisites include, among others, location within the LAG area, a positive resolution by the LAG decision-making body, and a concept for sustainable financial viability. Project planning, infrastructure investments, personnel and material costs, used machinery (up to 60% of the new price), as well as in-kind contributions (up to 60%) are eligible for funding. Grants of up to €250,000 per project are possible, with a project duration of up to 60 months. Applications must be submitted online via iBALIS by no later than 31 December 2027.
