About the funder

The Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law dedicated to the promotion of research and education in the field of natural sciences, particularly physics. It was established in 1963 by Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Heraeus and his wife Else Heraeus. Since the 1970s, the foundation has worked closely with the German Physical Society (DPG) and is regarded as the most significant private funding institution in the field of physics in Germany. Its activities include the organization and financing of international specialist conferences (WE-Heraeus Seminars, Physics Schools, Hut Seminars), the support of young scientists (Research Fellowships, Dissertation Awards, Scholarship Programs), as well as a variety of projects aimed at supporting students and teachers.
