The Department of Society within the Directorate of Culture and Society at the Office of the Upper Austrian State Government is a central public institution of the state of Upper Austria. It is responsible for the planning, coordination, and allocation of funding and political programs in the areas of "Education and Society," "Religious Affairs," and "Sports." Its tasks include, among others, the administration of the Upper Austrian Education Account, the support of social initiatives, as well as the promotion of educational, cultural, and sports projects throughout Upper Austria.

The Directorate for Culture and Society – in particular the Department of Society – is committed to strengthening social cohesion, cultural diversity, and personal educational opportunities in the state of Upper Austria. The goal is to provide eligible individuals and organizations with uncomplicated access to financial support, thereby creating sustainable incentives for education, culture, and social interaction.

Funding is provided to citizens and institutions in Upper Austria engaged in adult education, school-based and extracurricular cultural and social work, as well as in sports. This includes employees, educational organizations, associations, and educational institutions that offer courses, projects, or events and meet the quality and funding criteria of the state.
